Mr. Fiddler was raised on Sandy Lake First Nation where he currently resides with his wife and their son. He studied at Confederation College in Thunder Bay, Ontario, under the Native Family Worker Program. For the past eight years, Roderick has been the Community Diabetes Intervention / Prevention Coordinator for the Sandy Lake Health and Diabetes Project.
Working with this project has opened Mr. Fiddler's eyes to how diabetes is affecting the community of Sandy Lake and it's people. Living on an isolated and remote community has resulted in a very deep and personal understanding for Roderick, of the various challenges in developing a program that is appropriate to the many diverse needs of the people.
Mr. Fiddler's work involves the promotion of good nutrition and physical activity, and awareness of diabetes and it's devastating complications. In his spare time he enjoys hiking, reading and volunteering in activities targeted at the youth of Sandy Lake.
GARY MANOAKEESIC

In the past, Mr. Manoakeesic has worked in various capacities within the community of Sandy Lake including work as a Custodian, Construction Worker, Housing Renovations, Public Works, and as an on-call worker for the Tikinagan Child and Family Services. He currently serves as a board member on the Sandy Lake Housing Committee. Since June of 2005, Mr. Manoakeesic has worked as Physical Activities Coordinator / Data Collector for the Sandy Lake Health and Diabetes Project.
Throughout the year he works with various age groups, but primarily with school-aged children to help promote and implement physical activity programs. Gary is always eager to work and partner with other people in the community especially when it involves doing programs and activities for the children of Sandy Lake. His accomplishments include: building several skating rinks in the winter, baseball leagues, dodgeball leagues, diabetes camp for kids, road hockey tournaments, and the Summer Running Club.
In the months of May and September, Mr. Manoakeesic works in partnership with the University of Western Ontario collecting data for the Sandy Lake School Diabetes Prevention Program.
Gary currently resides in Sandy Lake along with his wife, two sons and two daughters.
